Antique Victorian earrings and brooch / pendant set in original, fitted box. 14k Gold, pink foil-backed quartz and carved white coral. Made circa 1860.
Brooch approximately 1 7/8 long; Earrings approximately 1 1/8inches long, not including the wires. Combined weight 24.3 grams.
Full leaf-shaped surmount attached with an unusual hinge / loop to the drop. Oval with concentric rings of twisted gold wire, carved coral globes with pyramid-shaped gold pins, a gold base with a gold twisted wire above and finally, in the center, a marvellous oval quartz gem, foiled to look like pink topaz. Exquisitely made and fabulous look. Rich gold backing.
top design is identical to that of earrings with a series of concentric rings in pink, white and gold. Backs have a glass-enclosed compartment, presumably held a locket of hair or a portrait. Besides the c-clasp pin, there is a small loop which might have held a security chain and which could be used to suspend the brooch as a pendant. Original shaped fitted box. The domed outside of the shaped box in leather with gold embossed detail; silk-lined upper lid and velvet lined bottom.
Like most Victorian jewellery, there are no hallmarks. Acid tested as 14k gold.
good with minor wear commensurate with age. Independent appraisal available to new owner upon request.
