Antique Georgian miniature eye portrait ring. 15k red rose gold. Made in England, United Kingdom. Circa 1800. Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.
Measurements: Weight is 5.9 grams. US size 5 1/2. Total length of bezel is approximately 1 1/4 inches (32mm).
Navette shaped ring in rose gold. The double ridged shank with a wide fork at the shoulders, leading to the gold mount. Gently arched back. Gold, navette-shaped border with bright cut engraved decoration in concetric rings. Within is a particularly lovely miniature eye portrait. The blond/light brown curls and blushed cheek are clearly those of a young lady. Golden eye or iris. The navette shape is particularly well suited to this form of portrait. The gold engraving is of a beautiful, high standard. Large and clear, it makes a great ring that could be worn by a man or a woman. In fact, it was probably given to a man at the time. The ring would have been made during the youth of the young lady whose eye is portrayed. After her death it was engraved on the back: Margaret Pyke 06 April 1784 Ot 45.
Marks and Metal: No marks, as is to be expected of a ring of this age. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: Good with negligible wear on the back commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
