Antique ring. 19.25ct yellow gold, Imperial topaz and rock crystal. Made circa 1750-1780 in Portugal.
Measurements: weighs 17 grams. Approximately 24mm in diameter. Impossible to measure exactly what size the ring is as it is slightly out of the round. Very approximately, a US 7.5. Very large ring showing exquisite workmanship.
The mount, in typical Portuguese 19.25ct gold, is a band of scrolling gold, lace-like ribbons, in the rich Portuguese taste of the period. It broadens widely at the shoulders and forms a bannister-like guard under the bezel. The bezel is flower-formed. Closed at the back. Concentric rings of precious Imperial topaz, very finely set to appear as single stones, form the outer petals. Within is a ring of rock crystal/quartz that glows like diamonds and in the center, a round topaz.
Marks: none, as is to be expected.
Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. There was probably repair-work done to the gold scrolls, which is natural after well over 200 years. However, it appears to be original to the ring. The bezel is in very good shape.
