Antique or vintage double pearl necklace. Platinum, gold, diamonds and pearls. Made in France. The clasp design and cut of diamonds suggest a late Victorian to Belle Époque era origin (circa 1890–1910)..
Measurements:
Weight is 35.9 grams. The shorter strand measures approximately 16.5 inches (42.5 cm), with the longer strand extending about an inch further.
Description :
Pearl necklaces between 16-18 inches long are known as "Princess". They usually fall to the collarbone, which is considered the most flattering length for any neckline and is therefore the most popular.
Here is a beautifully balanced double-strand pearl necklace featuring creamy, smooth, graduated pearls in the classic Princess length.
The pearls in both strands are graduated, with the smaller pearls near the clasp and the bigger pearls in the center. The pearls are artfully graduated, with the largest pearls centered on each strand; the longer strand displays slightly larger central pearls, creating a harmonious and elegant drape. Lovely smooth surface of creamy colored nacre.
The clasp is a work of art in itself—crafted in platinum and 18k gold and set with a row of Old European and Old Mine cut diamonds, framed by a border of rose-cut diamonds. This combination of diamond cuts is characteristic of late 19th to early 20th‑century French craftsmanship.
A small safety chain adds security.
The lovely quality of these pearls, the classic design of the double row with its sense of balance as well as the beautiful diamond clasp, combine to create a particularly French chic and lovely pearl necklace.

THE STORY:
Since our oceans have become so polluted, most sources of natural pearls have become extinct. Fortunately, early in the 1900's Mikimoto learned how to cultivate pearls with a little help from humans. Cultured pearls are real pearls, created in the bodies of mollusks in oceans or rivers. It takes years for the little creatures to add layer upon layer of nacre, the shiny iridescent material that constitutes the pearl. The larger the pearl, the longer it took to be created by nature and the less chance of the mollusk surviving. Pearls are the single gem that is produced by nature and that runs the risk of extinction through our polluting habits. We should appreciate what Mother Nature has given us and enjoy this special gift.
In fashion, pearls are making a huge comeback. While every woman needs a good pearl necklace whether in emulation of the late Queen and her family or simply to go with her jeans, it is the men who are outdoing themselves with the new trend in men's accessories.
