Cartier Antique Art Deco box 14k gold silver sapphires signed cased (7338)

Antique Art Deco dresser box / small minaudiere or cigarette box. 14k red and yellow gold, sterling silver and natural sapphires. Made by Cartier.
Comes with original 'case' and bag.

Measurements: Weight is 93.0 grams. A tad under 3 inches (7.4cm) long X 2 3/8 inches (6cm) wide X 5/8 inch (0.7cm) high.
Sapphires are approximately 0.5ct each (half a carat).

Description : Rectangular box, often called a minaudiere in France, made of sterling silver and 14k red and yellow gold and set with sapphires. The design is the epitomy of New York Art Deco: Engine turned silver surface overlaid with gold bands that have stepped detail on the corners. These are highly reminiscent of the skyskrapers being built in New York at exactly that time. The geometric forms and themes are also typical of the period and style. Subtle detail such as the gold bands running at right angles to the stripes of the silver engine turning; the textured engine turning vs the smoothe glossy patina of the gold. The very subtle juxtaposition of the red and yellow gold. Finally, the raised sapphires, set in gold colettes within the stepped pattern. Sapphires of a beautiful quality and deep blue.
Inside, the box is beautifully finished with a rich gold wash. Hinged lids are strong and secure.

Comes in original suede fitted box to protect the metal and gems when travelling. All this in a soft flannel bag with original lable (see below).
The box is not only a work of art and history, but a fantastic object to own or give to someone very special.

Marks and Metal: Ridge of bottom that is covered by closed lid has 14k STERLING and CARTIER signature. The flannel bag has a lable that reads CARTIER NEW YORK.

Condition: Good with minor dings and wear commensurate with age. Suede and flannel can do with a clean. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
