Antique - vintage ring. Gold, pink spinel and diamonds. Exact origin unknown. Date - see Story below.
Measurements:
Weight is 11.3 grams. US size 8. Spinel 4.68ct. Diamonds 1.95ct.
Description :
Large pink spinel, gently faceted is held in a half-dome of white gold with a yellow gold colette encircling it above. Around this is a ring of single cut diamonds, held in prongs. The prongs are on long legs that form a gallery, holding the inner ring of diamonds high above the lower diamond skirt. The undulating skirt, also held high above the finger by long-legged prongs consists of alternating groups of single and baguette cut diamonds. Baguette diamonds at cardinal points and corners. Diamonds appear to radiate in a very Deco-looking starburst. Ring balances a big statement with the pretty pink and the delicate workmanship of the diamonds.
The design of the ring echoes or predates the ballerina rings with their central stones surrounded by baguette and single cut diamonds, resembling a ballerina's tutu.

THE STORY:
Date: Originally, we assumed that this ring dated to the first half of the 20th century - Art Deco / Retro to mid-century. When we discussed it with other professionals, they expressed the opinion that the earrings are much earlier - latest end of 19th century, reflecting an opulent and valuable military order or other jewel of distinction. We will leave it for the new owner to decide.
This ring has a great look and makes a true statement. It is also all about the beautiful old, pink spinel. Recently, spinels have become recognised and valued in their own right not just as lesser versions of sapphires. Today, spinels command serious prices at auction. It's not very common to find a spinel of this size, making it all-the-more desireable.
A 4.68ct natural pink spinel is generally considered rare, as large, high-quality spinels are less common than smaller ones, and certain colors like pink and red are particularly prized. In fact, gemstones over 4ct are considerably more valuable than their smaller siblings.
