Antique Victorian Neo-Classic Earrings Gold Pietra Dura Florentine Mosaics (7294)

Antique Victorian neo-Classic / Etruscan Revival earrings ear pendants. 18k gold, intarsio pietra dura Florentine mosaics. Made circa 1880. Come in original antique fitted box. Made in Italy and exported to France.

Measurements: Weight is 12.4 grams. Approximately 2 3/8 inches (6cm) long, excluding the wires.

Description : Etruscan Revival long ear pendants. Classic with round surmounts linked to elongated tear-shaped drops via small gold loops that allow the drops to move independently.
Each part is set with a refined floral inlaid Florentine mosaic in shades of pink and green. Very, pretty. Understated elegance.
The gold mounts are very fine with braided gold borders and delicately moulded patterns.
Simple gold wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear.
This is the kind of work made at the time by Castellani in Italy and Fontenay in Paris in emulation of the Ancient Etruscans. Very fine quality and workmanship and very lovely. As weareable today as they were 150 years ago.


Come in antique fitted box. Leather embossed with gold. A groove above the earrings indicates that there was once a brooch that accompanied these earrings. Box with original hooked clasps in good order.

Marks and Metal: Wires have owl marks, used in France to indicate imported 18k gold. Gold was also electronically and acid tested to ensure metal purity.
