$3,250.00

1 left in stock
Antique Georgian miniature portrait painting. Watercolor in old wood frame. Attributed to Charles Jagger (c.1770-1827 who worked in Bath, England).
Measurements: Frame is approximately 5.75X6.25 inches. Painting site: 2.75X3.5 inches.
Description: A wonderful miniature portrait painting of a young woman, seated and leaning towards the side. She is all togged up in warm clothes as though about to depart for the cold outdoors. A yellow scarf is tied jauntily in her curly chestnut hair, which matches the fur collar and cuffs perfectly. These are offset by the deep blue of her jacket and a bright red cloth wound around the leaning arm. Her face is exquisitely painted. Round and cherubic with an exquisite complexion and pale eyes. She is the epitomy of rich, voluptious luxury. Painting techniques of hatching and stippling are used as can be seen in the enlarged pictures. This was typical of Charles Jagger (Daphne Foskett).
Frame appears to be of original burl walnut wood. It has a metal finial and loop for hanging on the wall.

Signature/Marks: No signature an be seen. We have not removed the painting from the frame and do not know whether there is anything on the edges of the work hidden by the frame. We assume there is not.
Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. The back of the frame was closed by the previous owner to us, about 20 years ago. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Daphne Foskett comments that some engravings after Jagger are in the British Museum and .. are well worth acquiring.
