Antique vintage nose ring nath. 22k yellow gold, pearls gems and paste (glass). Made in India early 1900's.

Measurements: At widest point, the nath measures 1 3/8 inches (34mm) across. Weighs 4.2 grams.

Description : In India, nose rings are called naths and were a symbol of a married woman's status. There are strong spiritual associations with the nose ring. Classic crescent, half moon shape with a half circle of gold wire completing the round design. A little cluster of pearls and paste (colored glass from long ago) extend somewhat at the point where the gold wire is caught in a little gold loop. The surface consists of varied sizes of pearls. We believe the pearls are natural, basra pearls, but they have not been tested. At about 7 o'clock, there is a kundan collette set gem that tests as a genuine transparent white stone - possibly topaz. The finely meshed pearls are held together with gold wire that can be seen at the back. Little gold wire protruberances are seen on some of the pearls. Very pretty and well made example of an antique nose ring.

Marks: No marks as is to be expected of Indian jewelry of this age. We acid tested the gold, which clearly stays for 22k.

Condition: Minor wear commensurate with age. The pearls can do with a light dusting, but we don't like to interfere with the condition of antique jewelry. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
