Antique earrings. 22k gold and 14k gold wires - see below. Made in India anywhere from the 19th to very early 20th century.
Measurements: Weigh 4.7 grams. Length, not including wires is a little over 5/8 inch (1.75cm).
Description : Hoops of an elongated horse-shoe design with applied decoration of granulation extending in clusters in a ring around the bottoms and another cluster at the terminal. The full-bodied, rich hoops are luxuriantly adorned with rows of geometric shapes within rectangular beaded borders. Granules of gold form focus points. The upper section makes up a ridged arch. Details are superb and workmanship is exquisite.
The earrings were made about 100 years ago for tribal women and may have been attached to long, wide, ribbonlike chains that connected them to the ear. To accommodate modern women and for ease of insertion and comfort in wearing, gold wire loops have been attached. Unfortunately, the original 22k gold wires were so soft, that the earrints were difficult to wear safely, so we had them replaced with 14k gold wires - much stronger, easier to secure and wear. The rest of the original earrings were not touched or altered in any way.
Marks: No marks as is to be expected. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
