Measurements: approximately 52cm (20.5inches) end to end. Length of section with garnets is a little over 33cm. Weighs 14.6grams.
Garnets are believed to be of the Pyrope species - a beautiful purple-pink to burgundy red, depending on how the light strikes them. Glowing with light and flashing unexpected color. The garnets are backed in gold, as was most Georgian jewelry. The necklace consists of a line of garnets with 3 semi-circular drops in the center of the necklace. Very beautiful, exeptional garnet necklace.
The gold chain at the back of the necklace is an extention to make the necklace fit a larger neck. The loop clasp is certainly a replacement. The chain extention is 9k. The original necklace is 14k. Georgian necklaces were very short and were usually worn on ribbons that could be lengthened or shortened to suit the neck and desired length.
Marks: none, as is to be expected. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity. Tiny marks on 9k gold addition say 375, which is the equivalent of 9k gold.
Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures. Independent appraisal available to new owner upon request.
