Antique late Victorian earrings. 14k yellow gold, spessarite garnets and demantoid garnets. Made in Imperial Russia late 19th to early 20th century. Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weigh 4.40grams. 3.18ct garnets in total. Approximately 3/8 inch (12mm) not including the wires.

Description: Classic late Victorian - early 20th century earrings in an ovel with a large stone in the center and smaller stones in a ring around it. The French call this 'marguerite', which means Daisy and is what the form resembles. In this case, the strongest element of the earrings is the color combination - deep red flashing light and sinking into shadow, oval spessarite garnets surrounded by smaller green demantoid garnets. Russian demantoid garnets are highly sought after and command extremely high prices. Red and green are complementary colors, so the combination will draw the eye to the earrings despite their relatively small size.
Like most original Victorian earrings, the wires of the earrings go through the ear from back to front. The hinged wires taper in width to the little hook that clicks into place behind the oval body of the earrings.

Marks and Metal: the wires are hallmarked with a Russian shovel shape. The numeral 56 represents 14k gold, which was the Russian standard at the time. The other marks in the narrower part of the shovel are not clear to us.
Another mark indicates the maker - 2 letters in Cyrillic - please see 'photos.

Condition: good wearable condition with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

These make a versatile and attractive pair of earrings.
