Antique Art Nouveau / Art Deco wide cuff bangle bracelet. Made in France, circa 1920 by Emile Boullier.
Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.
Measurements:
Weight is 63.9 grams. Outer circumference approximately 8 1/2 inches (22cm). Inner circumference is slightly smaller.
Description :
A wide cuff bangle embossed in a continuous design of a wolf. The wolf is prowling - crouched low weight on his paws, totally fixated expression on his face. The body of the wolf continues around the circumference of the bangle and his tail overlaps his front paw, just ahead of his snout. Superb modelled details.
Bangle is gently undulating - the width widens and narrows organically, at various distances along the wolf's body, with the widest part being where his ears stick up. Folded silver rims. Hinged on one side, with tongue-in-groove clasp on the other. Safety chain for additional security.
The subject and the workmanship are extremely strong and especially suitable for a man.
Marks and Metal:
Emile Boullier's mark BOULE on the tongue, along with another two French hallmarks. Silver at least 800.
Condition:
Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
THE STORY:
We found a similar bangle with the same wolf theme being sold in Paris. Their bangle has a watch set near the wolf's head - looking extremely inconguous and ill-matched. However, this did help us to confirm the identity of the maker.
During the 1920's women wore stacks of bangles up their arms. This cuff bracelet would be perfect to wear alone or stacked with others. It is highly suitable for a man since it is a very solid form and powerful animal subject.
Emile Boullier was known for his silver and bangles.
