Product Description

Antique handpainted miniature portrait painting. After a painting of Flora, by Titian, the great high Renaissance artist. Depicts a young beauty dressed in a simple white garment, possibly the Greek goddess, Daphne. Painted during the 19th century and comes with a handpainted, frame.

Frame measures 6 1/4 X 5 1/4 inches. Site measurements of painting are 3 1/4 X 2 1/2 inches.

Rectangular shape. Painting depicts a beautiful red-head young woman, Flora, partially dressed in a revealing white garment. In her right hand she holds a bunch of laurel leaves, indicating her identity. A wonderful red and white shawl is draped around her left shoulder and snakes around her hips, held by voluptious fingers of her left hand, that emphasise the naked breast above. The woman's hair is a beautifully arranged in a tumble of golden red waves.  The Venetian artist, Titian was famous for the red hair of his models. Her facial features are lovely.

The painting comes in an old frame with a velvety inner border, handpainted roses and textured gilt detail. It is done in the style of the old Venetians. The frame was opened and resealed by a previous owner.  After a few attempts, we feel that to re-open it could potentially damage the painting, so we are leaving it as it is.

No visible signature. Original good condition.
