England by the Italian jewellers Carlo and Arthur Giuliano, sons of Carlo Giuliano.
Measures approx 3.75 cm (a little under 1.5inches) long. Weighs 4.1grams.
Created in the form of the caduceus, a staff with two serpents / snakes and a pair of wings. The caduceus, symbol of Mercury/Hermes was emblematic of commerce,
negotiation and printing. It is often mistakenly associated with medicine or medical practise.
The staff in gold with a pearl at either end. Snakes in green enamel on gold with red eyes, wind like a double helix around the staff, their open mouths seeming to
support a pair of wings, pave set with diamonds.
Hinged pin with a c-clasp. Very high standard of workmanship.
The brooch / pin has an oval cartouche with C&A G stamped on it for Carlo and Arthur Giuliano. There is no gold hallmark, but I tested the gold with acid and it
stays for at least 18k.
Good condition. No loss/damage found.
