Measurements: 3 1/4 inches long. 1 1/8 inches top to bottom.
Set in 800 European silver, the brooch is a marvellous, imaginative depiction of an Ancient Egyptian god, probably Isis, the winged goddess. A snake in silver above
a detailed turquoise scarab, with impressed symbols on it's underside. Eagle legs and tail rest on a silver bar ending in lotus flowers and feathers. The enormous
wings, stretched out on either side with detailed silver cagework enclosing, like the rest of the brooch, enamelling in shades of turquoise, blue and pale green. The
bottom row of feathers done in plique a jour, shading from dark forest green to lemon. Subtle detail of the brooch much more than immediately meets the eye.
Beautiful craftsmanship.
Back shows signs of gilt wash and has a pale gold tinge. Hinged clasp with secure lock.
Marks: the back has engraved 800 for the European silver standard.
Condition: very good, original condition.
