Antique pair of handpainted ceramic vases. Made in Japan, circa 19th century. 

Slightly over 8 1/2 inches high. 

Classic baluster shaped vases. Body has 12 gentle facets. Simple linear pattern on the bottom border. Most of the body is decorated with a beautiful design in blue

and white. Reserves front and back, but the sides no less profusely painted. Vigorous floral and landscape decoration with fine lines and wide swathes, light and

dark blues with all the intermediary tones. Tremendous energy in the painting contrasts with the quiet care of the ceramic shape.  The flaring neck with fluted

surface. Inside decorated with bamboo botanicals. 

Good condition. No damage/restoration found.
