Page measures 13 1/4 inches (34cm) X 10 1/2 inches (26.5cm).
A very pretty painting with Krishna surrounded by his beautiful playmates, the Gopis. The group is depicted in the center of a fabulous garden with a stream running along the foreground. Dressed in largely diaphenous robes - quite transparent; veiled; richly gilded detail, shawls and skirts. Each figure wears fabulous jewellery.
The paint appears to be some form of tempera - very thick in parts, like gouache in others. Great treatment of the trees, expressed in a wide variety of forms, colours and patterns so that the painting is a combination of subtle sophistication and pure folk art.
Good condition.
