Antique large sterling silver serving ladle. Made by Tiffany & Co. 1884-1891. <P><P>
Measurements: approx 11 inches long; bowl is 4 inches accross widest part; Weighs 192.3 grams. <P><P>
Extremely sturdy and extremely beautiful. The pattern is Wave Edge, which was designed in 1884. A scalloped, deep bowl designed with both aesthetic considerations and a view to serving in elegant style. The long, highly arched handle has edges folded over in the form of a wavy branch, reminiscent of a sea plant, with raised foliage flowing into the center of the handle. The terminal has a raised fan shell with stippled detail, echoing the oceanic theme. <P><P>
The back has the identical decoration of flowing/waving plantlife and shell terminal, with the addition of fan shapes at the join of handle to bowl.  Workmanship is outstanding and quality unsurpassed by any firm at any time.<P><P>
Marks on the back: TIFFANY & CO; STERLING; PAT.IXX4 and M. M indicates that the piece was made during the era of Edward C Moore, who managed Tiffany silver works until 1891. <P><P>
Condition is very good. No dings/dents/damage/restoration of any sort.
