Exceptionally beautiful and unusual pair of Dutch silver berry serving spoons.
Date to 19th century - 1874. Maker Eversbag, Amsterdam.
Measure 7 1/2inches long. Weigh about 3 1/2oz.
Various theories what they were used for:
Possibly wine strainers as wine in those days had to be strained before it was drunk.
Someone informed me that : These are Ginger spoons. The side of the spoon to cut the ginger. The holes to let the ginger drain from the liquid. I have also been more recently and convincingly told that they were used for serving wet fruit due to the fact that from early 19th century on, fruit as a dessert was served in their liquid / juice. 
The elongated bowl is tear shaped. It has scalloped edges with minutely fine bright cut edges. Besides a narrow solid margin, the rest is all wonderful scrolling openwork, further enhanced by bright cut engraving. The handle arches and widens as it curves and rounds. Gently scalloped edges, decorated the same way as the bowl. Very delicate and beautiful engraving on the rounded edge.
Various Dutch hallmarks on the back of each handle. Thanks to the knowledgeable Dutch gentleman, we know that they indicate a date of 1874, city of Amsterdam and maker's name Eversbag.
