Antique very fine mesh evening handbag or purse with enamelled frame. Made in Germany during the flapper era, 1920-30's.

6 3/4inches from frame to bottom of fringes and 4 7/8 inches accross the frame.

Very fine quality metal mesh with outmost delicacy and flexibility. Colours are superb - ranging from turquoise through greens to beautiful yellows and reds. Roses and foliage like an Impressionist painting. Fringes of metal mesh on the bottom, cut to echo the Art Deco style frame and clasp. Pattern identical front and back.

Within is original silk lining, untorn, with a few age marks.

Frame is gilt metal with marvellous blue and pale yellow, classic Art Deco, enamelled pattern, highlighted in gold. Stepped, reversible with positives echoing negatives, symbolic of the skyskrapers that began dotting horizons during that period. The plain gilt metal clasp has the same theme.

Original, attractive, sturdy chain.

Frame has engraved MADE IN GERMANY mark.
