Product Description

Antique, Georgian era cut steel earrings. Made circa 1780-90.

Measure 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches long and 7/8 inches accross widest point. Weigh 8.5 grams.

Cut steel was introduced as a more economical alternative to diamond jewellery that gave the same glittering effect in evening lamplight.
Botanical theme: small flowers attached to the original loops with foliage stretching out beneath them. Suspended beneath another cut steel bauble is a dangling large flower, surrounded by a round wreath of foliage. The lower 'pinwheels' swing as the wearer moves. Each part beautifully faceted - catches the light, glimmers and sparkles. The steel rivet attached to brass back plates. Silver wire loops - very easy to insert in the ear and very comforatble to wear.

All parts are original and in very good condition with expected surface dots commensurate with the age and one tiny 'speck' of rust on one earring (that can be removed).
