Antique snuff or trinket box. Made in 18th century France, probably during the reign of Louis XVI.

2 3/8 inches in diameter (just under 2 1/2 inches). 1/2 inch tall. Total weight is 39.4grams.

Round box with removable lid. Sides and bottom with reinforcing edging rings of gold, delicately adorned with minute beading. Rim on top has larger gold beads. The box is made from blond 'natural substance', entirely covered in a pattern of gold dots and gold flowers within a square latticework. The patterning is done in a combination of yellow and pink-red gold. Very delicate and very beautiful.

There are a number of hallmarks on the gold banding.

The box is in very good condition with no damage and the lid still fits perfectly after more than 200 years. THe sides and bottom has the gold pattern entirely intact while the top has a few missing bits of gilding, as clearly seen in the 'photos, mentioned only for the sake of total accuracy.
